Hong Kong launches 26th Asian Championships

15th December, Hong Kong Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Congress today launched the 26th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships at a press conference to introduce the main sponsors, supporting organizations, partners and members of Team Hong Kong.

The long-awaited and highly-anticipated 26th edition, postponed numerous times due to the Covid-19 pandemic, is finally confirmed to take place at the South China Athletic Association's bowling centre from January 8 to 18, 2023.

The press conference was attended by Ms Ida Lee Bik Sai, JP, Deputy Director of Leisure & Cultural Services Department, Mr Paul Cheng Ching Wan, Acting Commissioner for Sports, Culture and Tourism Bureau, Dr Lam Tai Fai, SBS, JP, Chairman of Hong Kong Sports Institute and Ms Vivien Lau, SBS, JP, Chairman of Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Congress.

Mr Tomothy T.T. Fok, GBS, JP, Hon. IOC Member & President of Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China and Mr Eddie Poon Tai Ping, Head of External Affairs of the Hong Kong Jockey Club also joined the conference via zoom calls. Representatives of the supporting otganzations and official partners were also present.

The conference kicked off with the introduction of the distiguished guests before the introductory and welcome speech by Ms Vivien Lau. Her speech was followed by Mr Timothy Fok (over zoom call), then Ms Ida Lee, Mr Paul Cheng, Dr Lam Tai Fai and ending with Mr Eddie Poon (over zoom call).

Team Hong Kong will be represented by 2017 World Championships Trios gold medallists, Eric Tseng, Wu Siu Hong and Michaael Mak, who were part of the 5-Men Team that won the 25th Asian Championships Team gold in 2019 in Kuwait.

HKTBC will only enter one women for the championship, the 2017 World Championships Singles bronze medallist, Chan Shuk Han.

The team will be supported by head coach, Mr Bill Hoffman, assisted by Mr Francois Louw and Mr Kent Li. Members were then invited to a questions and answers session. A photography session followed thereafter together with the distiguished guests.

This year's championships have received entries from 19 countries and territories from Asia comprising of 108 men, 72 women and 72 team officials. Five events will be contested - Singles, Doubles, Trios, Team of 5 and the prestigious Masters for men and women divisions.

The championships will also be an Asian Zone qualification for countries to take part in the IBF World Combined Championships 2023 and World Games 2024. Live video streaming will be featured throughout the entrie championships.
