22nd September, Bangkok Hong Kong, China's Jovi Ma, Keith Mark, Ivan Tse, Tony Wong and Wu Siu Hong put in a strong performance in the first block of the Men's Team of Five at the 27th MWA Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships 2024 to finish third behind Singapore and China.
China's Du Jian Chao, Shi Guang Ming, Chi Ming Yu, Wang Hong Bo and Qi Wan Kang set a blistering pace with 1322 in their opening game to lead Australia's Jarrod Langford, Chris Castle, Scott Robertson, Blayne Fletcher and Jordan Dinham 22 pins.
Singapore's Jaris Goh, Joel Tan, Nu'Man Syahmi, Darren Ong and Jomond Chia did well with 1102, eight pins behind the Aussies. Hong Kong, China's Jovi Ma, Keith Mark, Ivan Tse, Tony Wong and Wu Siu Hong shot 1082 for fourth while the strong and fancied Malaysia could only totaled 1056 for fifth.
Singapore added a sizzling 1090 in the second game to take over the lead. China rolled 1042 to slip 18 pins behind the Singaporeans. Malaysia was still in the running with a 1043 second game to move up above Hong Kong. Australia fell out of contention after a poor 842.
In the next squad, overall leader of the first block, Kim Kyung Min, Hwang Dong Wook and Bae Jung Hun started in a worse possible way, managing only 587 in their opening game. They continued to struggle adding 549 and 590 to end their effort with 3730 despite topping the squad.
Singapore threw everything they had to end the first block with yet another stunning 1132 in their third game for a total of 3324. China held on to second with 3113, 211 pins from the leader. Hong Kong, China finished third with 3081.
Philippines stormed home for a total of 3065 to edge Malaysia who ended in fourth with 3051. The men will return to the lanes for their second block of three games followed by the women in the afternoon. The medal ceremony for both the Trios and the Team of Five will be held immediately thereafter.
