4th July, Hong Kong, China: Asian Junior Team bronze medalist, Louis Lam Ka Yiu of Hong Kong, China won his maiden title after victory in the Youth U18 Masters finals of the 47th Hong Kong International Open Bowling Championships while Ng Kwok Hing of Hong Kong, China captured his second senior title.
Izac Mong Yat Kiu of Hong Kong Potential squad set the early pace with 252 in his opening game to lead compatriot Matt Cho by 8 pins. But his lead last only one game after Lam fired a sizzling 279 to add to his 236 opener and the lead.
Youth U15 second runner-up, Brandon Tam of Macau trailed in second 35 pins adrift. Lam kept a superb momentum reeling in 255, 233, 232 and strong game of 265 to seal his victory with 1500 total. Tam and his compatriot and newly-crowned Youth U15 champion, Chiu Lucio Marcelino fought out second spot throughout the 6 game.
Tam prevailed to clinch second position with 1442 while Marcelino settled for third position with 1398. Asian Junior Masters silver medalist, Jovi Ma missed the podium with a fourth place finish on 1351 while Lam Tze Chung competed the top five with 1347.
The champion walked away with HK$2,000, Tam and Marcelino pocketed HK$1,000 and HK$500 as first and second runners-up respectively.
Meanwhile, seasoned campaigner and 65-year-old Ng Kwok Hing of Hong Kong successfully defending the Senior Masters title he won last year. Ng amassed a total of 1487, with a 6 pin handicap. Chris Chiu finished second with 1453 and Raymond Wong Wai Wing took third spot with 1426.
Ng earned HK$4,500 as champion leaving Chiu and Wong HK$2,000 and HK$1,000 as first and second runners-up. Qualifying will end late this evening. Grade B Masters, Youth Boys Open and Youth Girls Open Masters will be held tomorrow morning.
The Men's and Women's Open Stage I finals will be contested in the afternoon while the Grade A Masters finals in the evening.
