Hong Kong national makes top bracket

10th December, Doha 2023 World Championships Trios gold medalist, Tong Wong of Hong Kong, China made the top bracket in third position of the qualifying standings of the H.H. Amir Cup Bowling Championships 2024 underway at Qatar International Bowling Center.

Wong amassed a three-series total of 2217 from 755, 708 and 754 to take up third and crucially advanced into Step 2 Finals, skipping Step 1. His team-mate, Ivan Tse also secured a spot in Step 1 Finals in 15th position with 2094. However, Wu Siu Hong and Keith Mark has yet to qualify only managing 58th and 64th positions with 1968 and 1931 respectively.

Qatari youth, Talal Ali Al Marri topped the standings with 2274 after winning both Day 4 and Day 5 High Series Awards with 751 and 765 to add his other best series of 758. 2022 champion, Tomas Kayhko of Finland, who shot the tournament's second perfect game on a stunning 821 series with 222, 300 and 299 took up second with 2244.

Fourth spot went to defending champion, Kim Bolleby of Sweden with 2217 while newcomer, Noel Hagland Torgesen of Sweden and another Qatari youth, Abdulrahman Hadi Al Doseri made up the top six with 2176 and 2147. The top 6 will earn a by and skip Step 1 Finals.

Canada's Nathan Ruest-Lajoie missed the top bracket by four pins to take up seventh position with 2143 ahead of Luukas Vaananen of Finland in eighth with 2141. 2023 Kuwait Open champion, Pontus Andersson of Sweden, who rolled the first 300 of the tournament finished ninth with 2139 while Timmy Tan of Malaysia rounded the top 10 with 2132.

Qualifiers positioned 7 to 28 along with top 2 qualifiers from the first two days of qualifying rounds and top 2 Qatari youths qualifiers not in 7 to 28 positions plus top 2 local Qatari qualifiers and top 2 from the desperado squad will contest Step 1 Finals on Friday, December 13.

The top 20 with the highest score after 8 games will be joined by the top 6 seeded qualifiers for Step 2 Finals. The top 5 with the highest score will advance to the Stepladder Finals Shoot Out Step 3, 4 and 5 to determine this year's champion. Qualifying will continue for another two days which will end on December 12.
