11th December, Doha 2023 World Championships Trios gold medalist, Ivan Tse of Hong Kong, China made the top bracket in fifth position of the qualifying standings of the H.H. Amir Cup Bowling Championships 2024 to join team-mate, Tony Wong, who qualified in third.
Tse qualified with 759, 717 and 716 to finished fifth with a 9-game tally of 2192. Wong, who qualified in third had 755, 727 and 754 for a total of 2236. Qatari youth and winner of Day 4 and 5 High Series Awards remained in the lead of the qualifying standings with 2274.
2022 champion, Tomas Kayhko of Finland, who shot the tournament's second perfect game on a stunning 821 series with 222, 300 and 299 also remained in second with 2244. 2011 champion, Dominic Barrett of England made the top bracket to take up fourth spot with 2196.
Barrett, who started his qualifying rounds yesterday with two superb series of 737 and 749, added a 710 series to take his 9-games tally to 2196. The 39-year-old winner of three Major PBA titles and seven standard titles, also finished as second runner up in 2012 after winning his first Amir Cup title in 2011.
The sixth and last spot in the top bracket went to Mustafa Almousawi of Kuwait with 2184 after winning Day 7 High Series Award with 761. Noel Haglund Torgersen of Sweden, slipped down to seventh position with 2178, missing the cut by just six pins.
Winner of the 2023 Trios gold medal was Wu Siu Hong of Hong Kong, China, who qualified in 24th position with 2116. Wu is only 12 pins above the cut in 27th and 28th positions shared by Abdulla Mohammed Al Dosari of Qatar and Abdulrahman Al Kheliwi of Saudi Arabia.
The fourth Hong Kong, China team member, Keith Mark has yet to qualify and in languishing in 58th position with 1999. Qualifiers positioned 7 to 28 along with top 2 qualifiers from the first two days of qualifying rounds and top 2 Qatari youths qualifiers not in 7 to 28 positions plus top 2 local Qatari qualifiers and top 2 from the desperado squad will contest Step 1 Finals on Friday, December 13.
The top 20 with the highest score after 8 games will be joined by the top 6 seeded qualifiers for Step 2 Finals. The top 5 with the highest score will advance to the Stepladder Finals Shoot Out Step 3, 4 and 5 to determine this year's champion. Qualifying will continue will end tomorrow on December 12.
