13th June, Hong Kong: Macau national bowlers, Zoe Dias Ma and Veronica De Souza shone in the 46th Hong Kong International Open at SCAA Bowling Centre on Tuesday after topping both the Men's and Women's Open overseas qualifying pool.
Two-time Macao-China Open second runner-up, Dias Ma shot the highest 800-series in his first attempt with 835 and added another superb 788 in his second attempt to move into top spot of the Men's Open standings with 1623.
Dias Ma almost rolled the tournament's third perfect game in his 835 series. His compatriot and 2018 Macao-China Open first runner-up, Lee Tak Man also made great progress with 768 and 731 for a 1499 6-game aggregate to take up second spot.
Ho Man Lok completed Macau's domination by occupying third spot with 1493. Early leader, Cheang Chi Him, also from Macau, slipped out of the top 3 with 1435. In the local front, overnight leader, Tony Wong of Hong Kong remained the leader with 1602.
James Lui and Alex Yu occupied second and third positions with 1567 and 1547 respectively. Ernest Kwok of Hong Kong headed the mixed pool with 1479 while the cut in the men's table went to Alvin Lee of Hong Kong with 1403.
In the women's division, 2015 ABF Tour Macau winner, Veronica De Souza of Macau topped the overseas pool with 1469 with two series of 749 and 720. Chinese Taipei's Yang Hao Ting moved into second spot with 1333 while ex-international, Jermaine Seah of Singapore took up third spot with 1316.
In the local pool, overnight leader, Joey Yip, Gloria Yung and Gigi Leung remained the top 3 qualifiers with 1502, 1435 and 1388 respectively. Sammi Koa of Hong Kong headed the mixed pool with 1296 as the cut in eighth position went up to 1185, held by Zoe Hui of Hong Kong.
The Hong Kong Cup Masters finals will be contested tomorrow morning at 9.00am local time. Qualifying will continue for another two days, June 14 aand 15 before a series of Masters finals will be staged on June 16 and 17.
