4th July, Hong Kong, China: National keglers, Keith Mark Siu Ki, James Lui Chin Hung and Alex Yu Ho Yin took over the top three spots in the Men's Open local qualifying pool of the 47th Hong Kong International Open Bowling Championships on the Thursday.
Overnight leader, Lau Kwun Ho was pushed out of the top three bracket as a results of Mark notching up a 6-game aggregate of 1598. Lui also improved to leapfrog into second position with 1578. Yu amassed 1574 to occupy third with 1574.
Lau settled for fourth position with 1566 followed by Daniel Tse Lok Seng rounding out the top five. The three seeded national squad members were Wu Siu Hong, Tony Wong Kwan Yuen and last year's first runner-up, Michael Mak. However Mak, who also occupied tenth in the local pool with 1488 will attempt to make the top three.
2016 Hong Kong Open champion, Ryan Lalisang, who was fifth in the Mixed pool with 1474, made two attempts today to leapfrog into the lead with 1598. 2010 and 2014 Hong Kong Open champion, Hussain Al Suwaidi of UAE had taken over the lead with 1567 before the Indonesian's effort.
Overnight leader, Dias Ma had slipped behind the Emirati, bounced back with an 800-series to improve his 6-game tally to 1598. At the same time, Kim Min Kyu of KNSU also shot a perfect game to improve his total to 1574 for the crucial top three spot. Hussain needs to improve his total in order to earn the bye.
Jun Woo Hyun of KNSU headed the Mixed pool with 1515 and the cut in tenth position went to Hong Kong's Leung Chung Wo with 1475. With just three more squads left before it ends, this mark could go up to as much as 1490.
In the Women's division, the only change is Veronica De Souza of Macau, China bouncing back into the top three bracket of the overseas pool. Nora Lyana Nastasia of Malaysia remained the leader with 1499. De Souza improved to 1480 for second.
Putty Armein of Jawa Timur slipped down to third with 1470 while her team-mate, Sharon Limansantoso dropped out into fourth position with 1457. 2023 Macao China Open champion and this year's first runner-up, Kang Hy Rim of KNSU rounded out the top five with 1447.
Newcomer, Georgia Kuok of Singapore headed the Mixed pool with 1387 while the cut in eighth position is occupied by Jeong Hye Gyeong of KNSU with 1339. Perhaps this mark go increase slightly to around 1360.
There will be a one-game Desperado Squad held after the 10.00 pm last squad. The top three with the highest pinfall will qualify for Stage I Masters Finals tomorrow.
