23rd June, Hong Kong: Hong Kong will play host for the fourth time, the Asian School Tenpin Bowling Championships from July 25 - 31, 2015 at the South China Athletic Association (SCAA) Bowling Centre.
Hong Kong first hosted the Asian School Tenpin Bowling Championships in 2004, and then in 2007 as well as in 2009. We expect a participation of around 15 countries and territories with more than 130 athletes and 50 officials as well as overseas supporters.
The Championships is funded by the Arts and Sport Development Fund of the Home Affairs Bureau and supported by Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Congress (HKTBC) is most fortunate to have New Territories General Chamber of Commerce (NTGCC) and its sixteen members consenting to be the Title Sponsor of this Championships.
This is the first time NTGCC sponsors a sport event. This year NTGCC is also celebrating their 55th Anniversary. A series of promotional activities will be organized to create awareness in the community and among the districts of Hong Kong. HKTBC has specially invited the Malaysian National Team to come to Hong Kong earlier to participate in these activities.
They include demonstration as well as coaching clinic supported by The Hong Kong Jockey Club for athletes of the Hong Kong Paralympic Committee and Sports Association for the Physically Disabled, the Hong Kong Special Olympics, Ethnic Minorities youth and students, secondary school students from the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) and youth and orphans from Po Leung Kuk.
There will also be a Charity Bowling Tournament co-organized by HKTBC, NTGCC and TWGHs to raise fund for TWGHs "Support Scheme for Elite Sport and Art Students".
All these activities will be held on three consecutive days in the official venue, SCAA Bowling Centre before the actual Championships commences on July 26. Events in the Championships consist of Singles, Doubles, Team of Four, All Events and Masters.
There will be a one-hour delayed broadcast of the highlights of the Championships including the finals of the Masters event on TVB Jade. Up till now, 12 countries and territories have confirmed their participation.
With so many top young bowlers from all over Asia, we could expect a very thrilling and exciting competition in the five-day championships in Hong Kong showcasing the prowess of our Asian students as well as showing to the public how popular our sport is among schools not only in Hong Kong but also in the rest of Asia.
