7th August, Hong Kong: The Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Team bound for the 2018 Asian Games in Palembang next week were announced and introduced at the Meet-the-Media Session held at Hong Kong Sports Institute Bowling Center, Shatin, New Territories.
The team announced and introduced to the media were Wu Siu Hong, Michael Mak, Eric Tseng with debutants, Lau Kwun Ho, Tony Wong and Ivan Tse in the Men's six-man team while in the Women's division were Chan Shuk Han, Joan Cheng and Milki Ng.
The team will be hoping to better their last 2014 Asian Games outing in Incheon, Korea when Wu came home with a silver medal in the Masters and the men won the bronze medal in the Team event. The men also won the Team bronze medal at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games.
Hong Kong had previously won gold medal at the 1998 Bangkok Asian Games when the late Sunny Hui defied all odds to take the Masters title while Che Kuk Hung was the only women so far to win the Singles gold medal at the 1986 Seoul Asian Games.
Hong Kong's recent oustanding performance was last year's World Championships in Las Vegas in which the Wu Siu Hong, Eric Tseng and Michael Mak won their first-ever gold medal in the Trios event. Debutant, Lau Kwun Ho and Tseng also won their first-ever silver medal in the Men's Doubles. Chan Shuk Han captured Hong Kong's first bronze medal in the Women's Singles event.
The team will be assisted in Palembang by coaches, Nicholas Bohanan and David Haynes. The pair will have Dr Henry Li as their Physio/Psychologist. The team will complete their final preparations until next week and will be heading to Palembang, Indonesia on August 18.
