Three Hong Kong nationals make Stage Two

5th July, Hong Kong, China: Tony Wong Kwan Yuen did well to finish third in the Men's Open Stage 1 Masters finals of the 47th Hong Kong International Open Bowling Championships on Friday to lead team-mates, Wu Siu Hong and Michael Mak into the nest stage as Koreans topped both the Men and Women's division.

Wong amassed an 8-game total of 1973 for third position. Jung Woo Hyun of KNSU, Korea led the pack with 1998 followed by Lee Tak Man of Macau, China in second with 1982, nine pins ahead of Wong. Michael Mak completed the stage with 1925 for ninth position while Wu finished 13th with 1867.

The cut at 18th position to advance to the next stage went to Kang Jae Hee of KNSU, Korea with 1847. Three other Hong Kong national bowlers who contested the finals, Lau Kwun Ho, Daniel Tse Lok Sang and Ivan Tse Chun Hin failed to progress and ended up in 23rd, 24th and 28th positions respectively.

Defending champion, Tun Hakim of Malaysia also did not make the cut after a disappointing 27th position.

The Hong Kong trio will be joined by the three seeded team-mates, Keith Mark Siu Ki, James Lui Chin Hung and Alex Yu Ho Yin, who had earn a bye and automatically advance to Stage 2 finals from their qualifying positions.

Meanwhile, Oh Hyun Ji of KNSU, Korea topped the Women's Open division with 1945 after tussling for the lead in the early games. 2017 Hong Kong Open champion, Sharon Limansantoso and Shinta Ceysaria, both from Jawa Timur team, Indonesia took second and third spots with 1922 and 1844.

Chinese Taipei's Wang Ya Ting and newly-crowned Youth Girls Open Masters champion, Lim Wan Ling rounded out the top five with 1840 and 1833. Agnes Chang of Hong Kong made the cut for the next stage in 15th position with 1681.

The top 15 women and top 18 men will be joined by the six seeded men and six seeded women qualifiers from the general qualifying standings for another 8 games in Stage II finals tomorrow. The top 6 women and top 6 men with the highest pinfalls will proceed to the Stepladder Shootout Finals.
